A Lyric and Musical Journey through Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons
From 4–14 July 2026, La Roche d’Hys – Domaine des Arts welcomes the Dutch ensemble Cugnon Consort and a team of international lyric soloists for an artistic residency dedicated to the creation and development of a special Vivaldi Project "The Human Seasons".
Inspired by Antonio Vivaldi’s celebrated Four Seasons, this original project reimagines the work as a poetic and theatrical exploration of the human experience. During their residency, musicians, singers, and creative artists will collaborate to develop a semi-staged performance that combines Vivaldi’s concertos, his original sonnets, and vocal works drawn from three centuries of music.
At the heart of the project lies the idea that the seasons of nature mirror the seasons of human life: youth and awakening, love and passion, maturity and fulfillment, memory and reflection. Through music, poetry, movement, and spoken text, The Human Seasons seeks to create a living dialogue between the natural world and the emotional journey we all share.
The residency forms part of C.I.R.C. – La Roche d’Hys’ ongoing commitment to fostering international artistic exchange, creative research, and the development of new interdisciplinary performance projects.

ECHOES OF THE MIDDLE EAST
The Return of the Arab-Israeli Ensemble ABAAD
Residency: 16–24 August 2026
La Roche d’Hys – Domaine des Arts is delighted to welcome back the acclaimed Arab-Israeli ensemble ABAAD under the artistic direction of pianist, composer, and arranger Nizar Elkhater.
Bringing together exceptional musicians from diverse cultural backgrounds, the ensemble reunites oud virtuoso Ahmad Darawshi, violinist Koby Rubenstein, cellist Mira, percussionist Elias Habib, clarinettist and saxophonist Armelle Verguet, and Palestinian vocalist Maria Joubran, whose unforgettable performances with the Voices of the Near East Choir at La Roche d’Hys in 2017 left a lasting impression on audiences.
During their residency, the artists will explore and refine a programme that draws upon the rich musical traditions of the Middle East while embracing contemporary influences and creative collaboration. Through music inspired by themes of love, poetry, longing, conflict, and reconciliation, the ensemble creates a powerful artistic dialogue that transcends political and cultural boundaries.
At the heart of the project lies Nizar Elkhater’s distinctive artistic vision: to build bridges between traditions through original arrangements, improvisation, and shared musical expression. Rooted in the diverse cultures of the region yet open to new influences, the ensemble’s music speaks with a voice that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
In a world often marked by division, the residency reflects the mission of C.I.R.C. – La Roche d’Hys to foster intercultural understanding through artistic exchange. The presence of musicians from different communities, histories, and traditions working together in a spirit of mutual respect and creativity offers a powerful reminder of music’s ability to connect people beyond borders.

« Ça y est, je suis musicienne »… Et après…?
Je suis libre, je peux jouer ce que je veux, où je veux, avec qui je veux… Oui, d’accord, mais là, tout de suite, maintenant, concrètement, je fais quoi ?
Aller jouer. Le plus possible. Rencontrer des gens. Découvrir des styles en les jouant. Écouter de la musique. Beaucoup. Des jams. Du jazz manouche. Du new orleans. Du groove. Du funk. De la salsa… Absorber idées, vocabulaire, phrasé, énergie, s’immerger dans chaque style, et tenter d’en garder précieusement quelques bribes.
Puis chercher, seule, en regardant au dedans, fouiller la mémoire, les émotions, les images, les sons, faire face à soi-même.
Et se nourrir de tout ça pour construire autre chose… Pour créer des ambiances, laisser chanter des mélodies, imaginer un voyage qui passerait par de vieux souvenirs et des contrées imaginaires. A travers les sonorités du saxophone, de la clarinette et de la voix, jouer, expérimenter, enregistrer, essayer, recommencer, et se frayer un chemin, une heure durant, entre improvisation, imitation, composition, interprétation…
Ce moment, ce concert, est un premier résultat, une photo d’un instant de ce premier voyage en solitaire dans les méandres de la musique.
Biography ARMELLE VERGUET
Saxophoniste, Armelle Verguet use de cet instrument aux multiples facettes pour côtoyer nivers musicaux divers et variés. Que ce soit en musique classique, contemporaine, jazz manouche, musique de rue, avec danse, avec électronique, au saxophone mais aussi à la clarinette, les occasions d’expérimenter ne manquent pas. Elle est par exemple présente au saxophone soprano avec « The Golden Coasters », groupe de jazz New-Orleans dijonnais, au saxophone alto pour la fanfare strasbourgeoise « Balkan Express Orchestra », ou, plus classique, au saxophone baryton en quatuor de saxophone. Récemment diplômée d’un Master d’interprétation au saxophone, elle joue de manière ponctuelle avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. Également titulaire du Diplôme d’État de professeur de saxophone, elle enseigne depuis 2019 à l’école de musique du Neuhof à Strasbourg.

a grandi au sein d’une famille de tradition gospel,
accompagnant sa mère, une chanteuse
gospel renommée. Depuis, Daniel a
tourné et enregistré avec de nombreux
musiciens de jazz et la musique
contemporaine au Canada et aux

Bassiste et contrebassiste,
BASILE RAHOLA (France / Espagne) a étudié en
musique dans la région de Lyon où il
a multiplié les expériences de scène. Il
est le contrebassiste des groupes
O.G. Loc Cinq Têtes et Baz Trio. Il
continue sa carrière de musicien à
Barcelone où il se produit dans des
clubs au sein de plusieurs formations.
Le batteur jazz ARIEL TESSIER (France) est
diplômé du Conservatoire national supérieur
de musique et de danse de Paris. Très actif sur
la scène parisienne, il se produit régulièrement
en France et à l’étranger au sein de nombreuses
formations. Lauréat de plusieurs concours
nationaux, il a joué avec de grands jazzmen
américains, notamment avec Wynton Marsalis

Much of the music takes place in nature, on instruments called Campanules. There are instruments that are similar to the classical string instruments, but are equipped with sub-strings that help to capture nature's acoustics. The instruments are bell-shaped after the campanula flower, and were invented by violin maker Helmut Bleffert in Germany in the 1980s.
